putting it back together

The "new" parts are here! Mark and I went to the junkyard this morning and took them off and brought them home. Blue was as close as we could get to the color.

The new radiator and hose are installed, all the transmission cooling lines hooked up. The fan was the next thing to be put in.

The very bent hood pulled off and both headlights replaced.

The almost finished car. I still need to replace the hood latch, but I took it around the block anyway. The car is mobile again and looks better than it did last week.

more demons

This is the start of this week's storm. We had 6" by noon and a 10" total.

Several more grill-busting turkeys were waiting for me off Coon Road today. The whole flock numbered about 15 or so.

Along with 5 more of these demons hiding along the side of the road. I saw them before they got me.

I cleaned the car off (again) to get ready to repair the damage the demons did. Mark and I are going to get the rest of the parts tomorrow. I already have the radiator and hoses.

errands to run

The first stop was the post office. I used the one in Middle Falls because it was the closest one to where I was going. It's about 1/4 mile south of the traffic circle

Then on to the bank in the middle of the village of Greenwich. The Country Peddler is behind me. They have good fudge, but it's not quite as good as the place over in Bennington, VT.

Winding up my tow strap. I pulled the neighbor's van out as I was starting my errands. It was stuck at the end of their driveway. There is a lot of ice around.

Loading up all the fish stuff. One of the guys I work with wants fish, and we don't need it anymore. The last of our fish died off last year.

first step

The hand winch hooked up and ready to start pulling the front end back out.

Some of the broken parts removed. The radiator and what's left of the cooling fan, to be exact.

The much improved radiator support. Now it's ready for some new parts.

Today's last stop. The hardware store in Salem to exchange my broken ratchet for a new one

getting started

I got the car dug out of the snowbank and cleaned off. I'm hoping to start the repairs tomorrow. We finally got a couple days that are above zero.

A quiet winter day

Another one of those car wrecking demons waiting for me. It didn't get me this time.

Beechcroft's Shooters Supply down in Schaghticoke. The destination for this morning.

The three remaining walls of wood. These are the biggest sections, and we still have a face cord on the front porch.

More snow

The cars with another 4". Heather's truck is clean because she has already been down to the barn.

The tractor is ready for action.

The tractor/snowblower IN action.

The broken spring on the snowblower.

After all this snow, the snowbanks along the road are getting pretty high.

Fishing on hard water

Cossayuna Lake. Yes, those are tire tracks

This was still the preferred method of transport

The vehicles that made the tire tracks. At least some of them

First you cut the hole and clean all the ice chips out. Then you have a seat (or stand, if you prefer) and start fishing. The ice is about 10" thick. It was pretty chilly out there today. Air temp was 8 and windchill about -10

Too bad I didn't catch anything.....

Colder Still

This is what the thermometer was reading when I got home from work last night. It dropped a lot more before dawn. We got to -27. We now have a frozen cold water line into the bathroom at my end of the house. I hope it didn't split the line.

If you look for it, the girls from next door made this "snow spider" with icicle legs and pine cones for eyes. It's at the edge of the driveway.

Another cold winter day

The first 3 sections are empty.

but we still have a lot of wood left

This morning's trip to Lowe's
(Wally World is behind)

My truck is all clean again. I know it's only for a couple of days, but it looks good again

Another cold winter day

daily stuff

The tent garage is starting to get buried

Section 4 of the woodpile. We're not quite halfway
through the supplies

I needed to get the bed shovelled out.
All cleared out

Late to the game, but better late than never.
This is this morning's snow after snowblowing. My truck is to the left of the picture. The Escort's remains are visible behind Heather's truck.
