The old Danville barn

The owner said it went down over the winter. It was a pretty big job, but most of the siding you can see in these pictures went with us.

Undeneath the siding, there were some very large hand-hewn beams that were put together with wooden pegs. It probably was a grand barn in it's day.

cleaning out the barn

This is the horses' side of the barn. Obviously, we're not finished with the cleaning out part, but we have a good start on it. I took 4 more bags out this afternoon.

The rabbit side of the barn looks pretty good now. The door to the other side is visible (and open) on the right.

Adding gravel to help with the very soft spot
just a little off the road. That is right where the car tires settle when I bring it here. The truck is longer, but still has to go through the muddy depression to get parked.

More property pictures

This is the well. I was expecting a drilled type, so it was a bit of a surprise to find a dug well. I guess we'll put up a little house for it, maybe with the bucket and crank. Norman Rockwell would be proud.

Heather is coming out the back door of the barn. It measures 24 feet square, which is slightly larger than I guessed it was.

Looking down to the creek on the back corner. This is where we don't want the horses to wander.

Heather is standing at the edge of the pasture drop-off.

This is a little farther down the creek, but still part of our section.

The well

I found the well this morning when I went over to the property. The former owner had indicated about where it was. With that information, I found it. The cover that it's under is a sheet of plate steel. I'll need some help to lift it and get a better look at it.
The wider view of where it is, between the cedar and the big maple(?) I think it's a maple, but want some leaves on it to be sure.

The house will be here, about 100-125 feet off the road. This view is to the east, and it will probably be the back yard.
