A very short day on the lake

The day on the lake only lasted about a half an hour. The storm front moving in from the right brought lightning and heavy rain with it. I got to a cove and started fishing and that's when the lightning started. Time to leave as quickly as possible. Maybe I can get out again on my next day off.

Heather's window swapped out

 Out with the old windows.
And in with the new. This time it all went a lot quicker. I had everything we needed already here and knew what needed to be done. This one took about 6 hours instead of a day and a half.

Back home again

The view out of Mom's apartment window.
Most of the way back, the traffic wasn't that bad. Just that spot south of Atlanta when we ran into a HUGE traffic jam and lost about 3 hours getting around it.

Assembling the rabbit cages

We finished putting the wire on the frames first. Lisa & Jim brought over their air stapler. That made the job SO much easier. A lot quicker, too.
Heather got all the seams in the wire clipped together.
After I showed her how easy it was to use the stapler, she had fun with it, too. Here she's fastening the center divider between the two cages.
The cages are assembled. The doors still have to cut and fitted, and the trays under the cages need to be put in. Tractor Supply usually has them, but all the ones in the area are out of them right now.

Yard work

I mowed the yard yesterday afternoon, and cut the really thick areas slightly shorter today. I hope it will help them dry out some.
The garden was still too wet to do anything with yesterday, but I got most of it weeded today. It was still wet, but workable. The spinach doesn't look too good. I think it's too wet for it this year. It drowned on us a couple of times in Argyle when it was really wet.
Last thing for the day was building some new rabbit cages for the New Zealands. The cages they are in are starting to come apart, so these are much stronger to handle all the weight. We didn't get them finished due to material miscalculations. We need more wire.

Mowing and gardening

This was the mowing part for today. The Roark's pasture is all mowed. It looks nice.
This is the gardening part. I put the tomato and cucumber along the "trellis" to the left. We picked up the plants this morning from the greenhouse. One "Early Girl", one Roma and one "Sweeter Still" cucumber. They have a lot of room to spread out.
OK, not the best job on the "trellis" for the beans and peas. The wire was a couple of feet short of reaching the last post. I used some nylon twine to hold it tight. Looks kind of redneck, but it should hold for this season. It will be redone before the next garden is planted.

Work yesterday, play today

Our "work party" heading down the hill yesterday at Lisa and Jim's.
This is what we did for the day. See Jim's blog for more details on the day's efforts and accomplishments.
Today I took Matthew for some time on the lake. I put him in the boat and dropped it in the water. He moved it over to the dock and waited for me while I parked the truck.
We decided to try fishing in the submerged timber at the south end of the lake. We got some strikes and caught a couple of little ones.
It was a great day to be out on the lake, and the company was first rate. I hope he can come back to visit soon.
